General FAQ

Kratom is the common name for the Mitragyna speciosa Korthals, a tree that originates in South-East Asia. In Thailand the leaves of this tree have been used for many centuries for their medicinal and psychoactive qualities, which are comparable to that of opiate-based drugs. Thai workers use the leaves as a stimulant that activates mind and body. It is also used to help people get rid of an opium addiction. In recent times the use of kratom as a recreational drug has also gained popularity in the West.

There are several different types of kratom on the market: leaves, powder and extract. Dried leaves are the most common form of kratom. Kratom powder usually consists of powdered leaves and is a bit stronger. Extract is a sticky substance that is left after lengthy boiling and straining of leaves and is stronger than plain leaves.

The quality of the leaves is the most important factor in the potency of kratom. On the internet you will find what is called ‘commercial leaves’, meaning that these are a blend of leaves of different quality. These are quite suitable for making your own extract. You will also find selected, high quality leaves or powder. These are usually more expensive, but you will need less.

Mitragynine is an indole-based opioid-receptor agonist and the most abundant active alkaloid in the kratom. Mitragynine, otherwise known as kratom. Dry kratom leaf contains roughly 1.2–2.1% mitragynine.

7-Hydroxymitragynine is an agonist at the μ-opioid receptor[3] with a potency, calculated using pD (2) values, that is 30-fold higher than that of mitragynine otherwise known as kratom. It’s 17-fold higher than that of morphine.
