In Vermont the alkaloid 7HM has been made illegal at this time. The Vermont Statutes Online states that the Vermont Health board has the power to “adopt such regulations which in its judgment may be necessary or proper to supplement the provisions of this chapter to effectuate the purposes and intent thereof or to clarify its provisions so as to provide the procedure or details to secure effective and proper enforcement of its provisions. These rules, regulations, and determination, when adopted, shall, until modified or rescinded, have the force and effect of law.” Based on section 8 of Vermont Board of Medical Practice of the December 5, 2012 Board Meeting Gifford Medical Center, Randoplh, VT kratom is currently added to the Regulated Drug Rule in Vermont. Title 18 V.S.A. § 4205. Acts prohibited states that “It shall be unlawful for any person to manufacture, possess, have under his or her control, sell, prescribe, administer, dispense, or compound any regulated drug, except as authorized in this chapter.” This allows us to conclude that kratom/7-HM is illegal in Vermont at this time.
